The expansion project was discussed in a recent meeting between David Vélez, CEO of Nubank, and Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. The initiative aims to facilitate the fintech’s access to local investment funds and strategic Middle Eastern markets, where there is great financial liquidity available for investments.
In addition to benefiting from a favorable regulatory environment at ADGM, the institution’s physical presence may strengthen its relationships with global investors. However, the opening of the office does not mean there will be an immediate operation aimed at clients in the United Arab Emirates, as Nubank has not yet formalized the details of this initial phase.
This move follows a trend seen in other fintechs that seek expansion into consolidated financial regions, aiming to increase their reach and diversify their capital bases. The choice of Abu Dhabi highlights Nubank’s interest in strengthening its international operations through recognized financial hubs.
