The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) authorized the advance payment of the 13th salary for retirees and pensioners in 2026, according to a decree published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on June 19, 2024. The payment will be divided into two installments, with the first half released in April and the remainder in May of the following year.
The government will allocate R$ 78.2 billion to the economy through this measure, which will benefit Social Security insured individuals, including those receiving benefits such as temporary disability aid, accident aid, retirement, death pension, and prison aid throughout 2026. Additionally, the amount will be proportional for those who stop receiving the benefit before December 31, ensuring fair payment until the end of the benefit.
The second installment will correspond to the difference between the full amount of the 13th salary and the amount already advanced in the first phase. This division aims to facilitate the financial planning of beneficiaries while maintaining the regularity of payments scheduled for the end of the year.
The announcement caused a significant increase in public interest, with Google Trends recording more than 200 searches related to retirees’ 13th salary on the morning of June 20, 2024. The search volume grew by 75% compared to the previous date, indicating the relevance of the information for Social Security insured individuals.
Meanwhile, the advance payment of the benefit is expected to directly impact consumption in various regions of the country, especially where retirees’ and pensioners’ income represents a significant portion of the local economy. However, the continuation of this payment will still depend on maintaining economic conditions and current regulations throughout the year.
Finally, it is expected that the installments will be paid on the dates stipulated in April and May, according to the official statement from INSS. In this way, beneficiaries will be able to count on the advance payment without changes to the usual schedule of social security benefits.
